Forced Displacement and Urban Management Conference 2021 September 7-9, 2021 Virtual Conference, Indonesia

The Organizer of Forced Displacement and Urban Management Conference 2021 cordially invites you to join our conference which will be conducted online from 7 to 9 September 2021. The Conference is organized by the Resilience Development Initiative Urban Refugee Research Group (RDI UREF) and Indonesian Civil Society Association for Refugee Rights Protection (SUAKA). 

This conference invites the general public, students, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to exchange knowledge and experience on international forced migration in urban context and to filter issues of concern for future collaborative research works, especially in the context of Global South, the Asia and Pacific Region.

The conference emphasizes on more on the dynamic, engaging, and interactive session, instead of being a fully academic conference. The Organizer combines both pre-recorded and live QnA discussion sessions that will be managed through Conference Website and Zoom platform. 

Forced Displacement and Urban Management Conference consists of three main sessions which are plenary, three thematic sessions, and two special sessions. The Conference focuses on the theme of Right of the City, Space and Place, and Beyond Resettlement. Besides, the Conference also provides the general public the special sessions on youth and refugees.

We are expecting a motivating meeting and looking forward to meeting you in Forced Displacement and Urban Management Conference 2021.

Theme and Topic

Right to the City

  1. the rights to access basic services, healthcare, education, shelter, and employment;
  2. gender, child protection, and displacement; 
  3. governance; 
  4. urban development agenda, urban governance, and management;
  5. transboundary collaboration and cooperation.

Space and place in the everyday life of refugees and host communities

  1. architecture, environment, urban design, and its intersection with forced displacement;
  2. geography and spatiality of the forcibly displaced;
  3. placemaking, social initiative, integration, and empowerment;
  4. identities and place-belonging;
  5. technology, big data, and social media as the new space and place.

Moving forward: beyond resettlement

  1. the trend of sustained displacement and how it affects the life of refugee and host community;
  2. thinking out loud on the possible solution; 
  3. the role of inclusive society as a foundation that provides both protection and solution for refugees.

Awards

  • The awards are given to the most outstanding presenters of the conference under two categories: best presentation and best poster nomination. 
  • Several extended abstracts will potentially be further invited to contribute to a book writing publication.
